My (mostly) spoiler free review after the jump!
OK, full disclosure Spider-Man is my favorite superhero and I consider at least the first two Tobey Maguire Spidey films to be good and his third to be decent though flawed. (It really should have been splint into two separate movies but that is a rant for another post!) So having liked the previous films I wondered why oh why did they need to start over with another “origin” movie? Everyone already knows how Peter Parker gets his powers he is bitten by a radioactive (old school) / genetically manipulated (new school) spider and then he gets his powers. We don’t really need to go over that again. But then I noticed something from the preview, this version is using a mechanical web shooter! Something that always bothered me about the Maguire Spidey was that his webbing was part of his spider power and not something he made. While it wasn’t enough to spoil those movies it did bug me a bit. So I though to myself, well at least there is one good reason to start from scratch. Besides I’m always up for a new Spidey film so on to the review!
OK, I didn’t like this movie… I loved it! This movie had all that you would expect from a new block-buster action, emotion and humor. The directing was good, I though it was well paced and the acting was excellent too. This version also had a few twists not in the last version, like a mystery regarding Peter’s parents. I don’t want to give anything away, so just go see it! You’ll be glad you did then you can come back here and tell me what you thought about it.
